![]() ![]() Millard Tawes, and then-Baltimore Mayor J. Annually, the Royal Farms Arena is host to 800,000 people.Ī cornerstone to the arena was laid in the arena in 1961 with a vault that included messages from then-U.S. When the naming rights agreement with 1st Mariner Bank ended in 2013, the arena was briefly returned to its "Baltimore Arena" name, until Royal Farmspurchased the naming rights to the arena in September 2014. The new naming rights deal calls for Royal Farms to pay $250,000 annually for five years to the city, and gives Royal Farms first rights to renew/restructure their deal at the end of the contract, or in the event that the city constructs a new arena. The Royal Farms Arena is owned by the city of Baltimore and is currently managed by SMG, a private management company. It was reported that 1st Mariner Bank paid the city $75,000 a year to keep the naming rights to the complex. In 2003, it was renamed by 1st Mariner Bank, which purchased naming rights to the arena for 10 years. As a major cornerstone for the Inner Harbor redevelopment during the 1980s, it was reopened after renovations and was renamed the Baltimore Arena in 1986. It was built on the site of "Old Congress Hall", where the Continental Congress met in 1776. The arena officially opened in 1962 as the Baltimore Civic Center. It seats up to approximately 14,000 people though this number varies depending on the type of event. The arena is located about a block away from the Baltimore Convention Center on the corner of Baltimore Street and Hopkins Place it is also only a short distance from the Inner Harbor. I will be going back but not without proper hydration, a portable fan and my own seating chart.Royal Farms Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena, 1st Mariner Arena and Baltimore Civic Center) is an arena located in Baltimore, Maryland. I had reserved parking at a discounted rate through Parking Panda and my lot was right across from the arena. There doesn't seem to be any issues with parking. I do like that the venue is smaller than Verizon center making nosebleed seats at Royal Farms are much more acceptable. I guess it's something to consider when going to RFA. Fans of the Eagles are no spring chickens and considering the heat, no one in my section was very lively during the 3 hour concert. By this time, my shirt is drenched with sweat, i'm ticked off and overheated, making it hard to really enjoy the show. I guess some people in the very last row felt sorry for us and all scooted down so that we could sit. ![]() He points his flashlight to the last rows and orders us to find two seats and sit in them. After walking up to another section of full seats, I'm feeling like I'm either going to pass out or just say "F this!" and leave, I find our original usher and demand that he help us find our seats. People are looking at us like we each have three heads. My 67 year old mother and I walk up the incredibly steep stairs to the area where he points but no two seats open next to each other. When we finally get his attention, he points in the direction where my seats may be. He's totally ignoring the fact that there are several groups of people waiting for him to help find their seats. We go to our section (309) as the band is performing and we see the usher halfway up pointing his flashlight into people's faces like he's a police officer trying to scare some no good teenagers. It's got to be about 90 degrees up there. The first thing I notice when we get to the third level is how incredibly hot it is. It was a bit of a mixed experience for me and had I not spent $200 on a pair of tickets and had it not been the Eagles, I might have walked out. My first visit to Royal Farms Arena was to see the History of the Eagles. ![]()
